Location

The grasslands biome covers an area ranging from the coastal belt of the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, over the escarpment and into the central plateau. It lies between 25º and 31º longitude and 25º and 33º latitude.

The majority of people in South Africa live on the grasslands, which covers most of the large coal deposits and goldfields; productive agricultural land; and Gauteng, the country’s economic heartland and largest economic urban complex.
